Diletta Sciti
The National Research Council (CNR) of Italy is the largest Italian public research organization, counting 109 institutes and more than 6,000 researchers; its mission is to carry out, promote, spread, transfer and improve research activities in the main sectors of knowledge and their applications for the scientific, technological, economic and social development. CNR participates in C3HARME with the Institute of Science and Technology for Ceramics (ISTEC) which is an interdisciplinary research institute for the study of advanced materials in the aerospace, biomedical, energy and environmental fields. Topics range from the basic study and characterization of raw materials and components to the development of ground-breaking elements. The aim of the research at ISTEC is the design of innovative ceramic materials of different nature with controlled physico-chemical or thermo-mechanical properties, through a careful structures engineering and a thorough processes control. The main research topics and materials developed belong to four main areas: High-Tech, Bio-ceramics, Energy and Environment, Cultural Heritage.
